Check Your Wallet: Some $5 Bills Could Be Worth Thousands

NEW YORK  — If you have any $5 bills in your wallet, you might want to take a closer look before spending them. With over 826 million $5 bills in circulation, a select few could be worth significantly more to currency collectors due to their unique serial numbers.

According to GOBankingRates, $5 bills with serial numbers like "G88888888A" or "B55555555C" are highly sought after because they feature "solid" serial numbers, where all the digits are identical. These rare bills, occurring in about one in every 11 million $5 notes, can fetch upwards of $2,000 from collectors.

If you come across one of these rare finds, experts recommend getting it appraised at a local coin shop. Additionally, other denominations with distinctive serial numbers can also hold considerable value for collectors.
