A car owner, whose vehicle had been stolen, managed to trace it to a parking lot at South Park Mall, San Antonio, Texas. Just before 1 pm on Thursday, gunfire erupted in the lot when the owner confronted the alleged thieves.
The car owner ordered the driver and his female companion out of the stolen vehicle, holding them at gunpoint as they waited for police to arrive. However, the situation took a violent turn when one of the suspected thieves, a male, drew a gun from his waistband and opened fire, hitting the car owner.
A video captures the aftermath of a stolen car confrontation: dead man on the scene, female companion injured with blood-splattered leg.
In response, the car owner returned fire, fatally shooting the male suspect. The female companion, who was the passenger in the stolen car, was also shot and is currently in critical condition at a local hospital. Authorities have confirmed that the car owner is in stable condition.

San Antonio Police Department Chief William McManus stated that the incident appeared to be a case of self-defense. While he emphasized that it is advisable to contact the police in such situations, he acknowledged that the car owner acted based on what he felt necessary at the time.
