Company that produces ice cream has recalled nearly 70 products
BALTIMORE — In a sweeping safety measure, Maryland-based Totally Cool Inc. has issued a recall for a variety of dessert products across more than a dozen brands, affecting around 70 items, following an alert from the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) about potential listeria contamination. The recall includes popular items such as Friendly's ice cream cakes, Hershey's ice cream cones, and Jeni's sandwiches.
The FDA has identified the bacteria involved as Listeria monocytogenes, which poses a severe risk of fatal infection in young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems. Despite the serious potential health threat, no cases of illness have been reported to date.
Consumers in possession of any recalled products are being urged to return them to their place of purchase for a full refund or to safely dispose of them immediately to avoid any risk of infection.
