Parents Try Unusual Butter Trick to Help Babies Sleep, Experts Skeptical
Sleep-deprived parents desperate for a full night's rest are turning to an unusual remedy that some claim works wonders—giving their babies a spoonful of butter before bed.
The trend, which originated on TikTok, has gained traction among parents who say the simple trick helps their toddlers sleep through the night. Videos on social media show caregivers offering their little ones a small square or spoonful of butter before bedtime, with many touting it as a "genius parenting hack." However, not all parents have had success, with some reporting no noticeable improvement in their child's sleep patterns.
Experts, however, are warning against the practice. Nutritional therapist Hannah Love dismissed the trend as ineffective, while baby nutritionist Charlotte Stirling-Reed cautioned that social media is rife with misinformation. She emphasized that butter is not a recommended sleep aid and could even pose a choking hazard for young children. "Giving it to them on a spoon is not advisable," Reed said.
As with many viral parenting trends, experts urge caution and recommend consulting healthcare professionals before trying unconventional remedies.
