Gen X Names on the Brink of Extinction, According to Social Security Data and TikTok

For Generation X, the latest reminder of their advancing age comes in an unexpected form: their names are disappearing. According to data from the Social Security Administration, amplified by the popular TikTok account "Nostalgia Nut," many names once common among Gen Xers have become so unpopular they're now considered nearly obsolete.

Among the names falling out of favor are Karen, which has seen a significant decline, along with Donna, Tracey, Gary, and Cheryl. Names like Lorraine, Wayne, Beverly, and Dawn are also sounding increasingly out of place in the 2020s. Even if you're named Denise or Barry, you may not be old—but your name certainly sounds like it is
