FDA RECALLS 28 POPULAR BEVERAGES DUE TO HARMFUL CHEMICAL CONTAMINATION

FDA Recalls 28 Beverages Over Contamination Concerns in 2024

The FDA has recalled 28 beverages so far in 2024, The Daily Mail reported.

Most of the recalls were due to undisclosed drugs, bacteria, or harmful chemicals found in the products. Among the recalled drinks is Himalayan Pain Relief Tea, which failed to disclose an anti-inflammatory medication ingredient on its label. Martinelli’s Apple Juice was found to contain arsenic, a toxic metal linked to increased risks of bladder and skin cancer.

Approximately 1.9 million bottles of Fiji Water, produced by Natural Waters of Viti Limited, were recalled after the discovery of three types of bacteria and excessive levels of manganese, which in high amounts can cause brain damage. Additionally, four beverages from Charles Boggini Company—Pink Lemonade, Yellow Lemonade, Yellow Lemonade X, and Cola Flavoring Base—were recalled due to undisclosed food dyes associated with cancer risk.

Dr. Darin Detwiler, a former FDA and USDA advisor and food safety expert at Northeastern University in Boston, commented on the situation. "There are a lot of drinks that have been scrutinized of late and a lot of it has to do with labeling and undeclared ingredients," he told The Daily Mail. He noted that the FDA faces mounting pressure to tighten regulations on food and beverage companies.
