Honda Expands Recall of Lawn Mowers and Pressure Washer Equipment Amidst Reports of Injuries

Honda has expanded a recall of its lawn mowers and pressure washer equipment following nearly 5,000 reports of failures and 38 minor injuries.

The latest recall affects 200 lawn mower replacement engines installed to repair faulty machines after a recall last September. The same fault in the replacement engines is behind the fresh recall. Improperly manufactured camshafts cause the starter rope to suddenly retract when pulling to start, posing an injury hazard.

In September, Honda recalled 391,000 lawn mowers and pressure washer equipment due to similar issues. The same problem with improperly manufactured camshafts causes the starter rope to suddenly retract, posing an injury hazard. Many of the originally recalled machines have yet to be repaired, and some of the repaired ones still have the same issue.

The latest recall comes ahead of the summer months when millions of Americans will be out in their yards mowing lawns and cleaning driveways and patios.

The latest notice applies to Honda HRN216 and HRX217K6 lawnmowers, and GCV170/200 G5B general-purpose engines used in power washers and lawnmower replacement engines.

Owners are urged to immediately stop using the recalled products and contact an authorized Honda Power Equipment dealer to schedule an appointment for a free inspection and repair.

The products cost between $550 and $1,100 and were sold at Coo, Home Depot, Lowe's, Northern Tool, and various other stores nationwide.
