Police Investigate Alleged Forced Sex Change Operation in India

MUZAFFARNAGAR, India (AP) — Police in India are investigating claims that a man was allegedly tricked into undergoing a sex change operation in a bizarre land dispute in Uttar Pradesh.

Mujahid, 20, from Sanjak village, alleges that Omprakash, a local man, misled him into believing he required urgent medical treatment. Mujahid says he was taken to Muzaffarnagar Medical College, where he underwent surgery on June 3. When he regained consciousness, he discovered that his genitals had been removed, according to NDTV.

"When I woke up, I was told that I had been changed from a boy to a girl," Mujahid said.

Mujahid contends that Omprakash had subjected him to two years of threats and harassment before the surgery. Omprakash allegedly coerced Mujahid to live with him, claiming he would be ostracized and threatened to shoot Mujahid's father and seize his family’s land share.

"He said, 'I changed you from a man to a woman, and now you have to live with me. I have arranged for a lawyer and a court marriage. If you refuse, I will shoot your father and take your land,'" Mujahid recounted.

In response, local farmers' union workers protested at the medical college, demanding immediate legal action against Omprakash and the doctors involved.

Authorities have arrested Omprakash and are investigating the medical team. Senior Muzaffarnagar police officer Ramashish Yadav assured that the allegations would be thoroughly investigated and appropriate legal actions taken.

Mujahid's family is pursuing legal action, asserting that his life has been severely impacted by the ordeal.
