Male Birth Control Gel Shows 87% Effectiveness in Trials, Says NIH
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Researchers are nearing the development of a prescription birth control method for men, with promising results emerging from recent trials. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) reports that the new male birth control gel has demonstrated an 87 percent effectiveness rate in preventing unintended pregnancies.
The gel, which is applied to the shoulders, has a consistency and smell similar to hand sanitizer. Notably, it has shown no significant hormonal side effects, such as increased aggression or gynecomastia.
Despite these encouraging findings, the NIH cautions that it will take approximately another year of testing to confirm the gel's efficacy and safety. Until then, men eager for a new birth control option will need to wait.
