Study Finds Lack of Toilet Training, Motor Skills Among Schoolchildren
LONDON — A growing number of children in the United Kingdom are starting school without being toilet trained, according to a new study highlighting concerns over school readiness.
Researchers found that some five-year-old children entering classrooms lack basic motor skills, with some struggling to sit upright due to poor core strength. Initially, experts suspected these developmental delays were linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, which limited socialization and physical activity. However, five years later, the issue persists.
Experts now attribute the problem to excessive screen time and a lack of physical activity, warning that insufficient movement and interaction may be hindering children's development before they reach the classroom.
