TikTok Influencer Criticizes Target's Shopping Cart Redesign, Sparks Mixed Reactions

LOS ANGELES  — A popular TikTok lifestyle influencer and mother, Ashley Darling, has voiced her frustration with Target’s recent shopping cart "redesign," accusing the retail giant of overlooking key concerns for parents. In a video posted from inside a Target store, Darling expressed disappointment, claiming, "You can definitely tell that they did not consult one single mother while redesigning these carts."

While she praised the bucket seat for her young daughter, Darling took issue with the placement of two cupholders next to it, calling them "a recipe for trouble." She suggested moving the cupholders closer to the front of the cart, arguing, "I think pretty much anyone can tell you we don’t want the cupholders up here."

Darling also pointed out small holes in the gray section of the seat, which she believed posed a potential safety hazard for children. “The perfect size for toddler fingers — to get their fingers literally stuck in there,” she warned, predicting potential legal trouble for the company in the future.

Despite Darling's concerns, reactions online were divided. Many commenters disagreed with her assessment. "I think the holes are large enough that a toddler’s finger won’t get stuck, and I like the cupholder," one viewer commented. Another user, a parent, said, "I actually kind of like the cupholder there — my son can put his cup there himself, so it’s not getting dropped in the store."

Even non-parents weighed in, with one saying, "Since I’m not a mom, I want my cup holder near my hands at the handle." Some also criticized Darling’s proposed redesign, suggesting it would be inconvenient. “I don’t want to have to stop, walk to the end of my cart, take a drink, and put it back before I can move forward again,” one user pointed out.

As the debate continues, Target has yet to publicly respond to the critiques of its updated shopping cart design.
