CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The community of Charleston, West Virginia, is preparing to bid a poignant farewell to a once-popular local establishment that closed its doors in 2020. In an unusual tribute to a business that held a special place in the hearts of residents, a candlelight vigil is set to honor the now-abandoned Hooters located just outside the city limits.
Despite the establishment's closure several years ago, many in the community had held out hope for its return. However, those hopes have been dashed with plans to demolish the building to make way for a new gas station. Before the wrecking ball does its work, locals plan to gather in a show of respect and remembrance for the venue that once served as a gathering spot.
The vigil underscores the unique bond between the establishment and the Charleston community, highlighting how even unconventional places can foster a sense of belonging and nostalgia among residents.
