ANKARA, Turkey — In a case highlighting the importance of personal hygiene in marital relationships, a Turkish court has granted a woman's request for divorce from her husband over his insufficient hygiene practices. The woman, identified by Turkish news media as A.Y., filed the lawsuit against her husband, known as C.Y., claiming his rare showers, persistent sweat odor, and infrequent toothbrushing severely impacted their marriage.

According to the plaintiff's legal representation, the issue was brought before the 19th Family Court in Ankara,
It was detailed that C.Y. would wear the same clothes for extended periods, up to five days without change, and neglected basic personal care. Witnesses, including mutual acquaintances and the husband's co-workers, corroborated these claims, providing testimony about C.Y.'s hygiene habits.
The court's decision not only dissolved the marriage on the grounds of inadequate personal hygiene but also ordered the husband to compensate his wife with 500,000 Turkish lira (approximately $16,500). This case underscores the legal and personal repercussions that can arise from neglecting basic self-care within a marital context.
